The Quality and Materials Manager and Safety Chair is responsible for overseeing the plants quality methods and protocol in accordance with ADS, and industry standards as well as customer requirements. As part of the Quality and Materials Manager role, this person would be responsible for the management and control of the raw materials in and out of the facility. This person must demonstrate excellent leadership skills and work collaboratively with the plant management team. This position will require flexibility to work 40+ hours a week plus weekends as required and have the flexibility to work various shifts and times if needed. This role reports directly to the Plant Manager for all day to day activities and long term development.



Job Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Quality and Materials Manager and Safety Chair include, but are not limited to:

  • Drive Continuous Improvement at the plant level by streamlining and improving the raw material, quality and safety programs.
  • Implementation and training of company, AASHTO, ASTM & CSA quality standards with plant personnel.
  • Communicate with Central Labs, other plants and plant personnel on quality related issues.
  • Daily review of product from all lines and inventory since previous day. Communication and follow-up is to be established between plant manager-production manager-Shift Supervisors-Operators.
  • Ensure Wired Plant compliance through training, follow-up and documentation to plant management team if issues persist.
  • Monitor proper handling of product by all employees (i.e. product damage, proper storage).
  • Maintain schedule and proper calibration of quality measurement instruments.
  • Generate certification and compliance letters as required.
  • Complete incoming resin sampling procedures to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Create and manage all blends created in facility to maximize production efficiency at lowest cost possible.
  • Manage material stream in and out of the facility from truck and rail deliveries to local material conveyance inside the facility.
  • Conduct and publish lab samples in accordance with the ADS Quality Manual.
  • Respond to field complaints/visit customer locations (as needed).
  • Responsible for company-wide safety compliance, incident root cause analysis and progress initiatives and programs while maintaining strategic alignment with corporate objectives. 
  • Work with Managers and Directors to design and maintain an innovative and industry-leading safety culture
  • Integrate safety across all functional areas, individual job duties and job responsibilities
  • Maintain safety compliance throughout the organization Assist in identifying, developing and delivering safety training and training materials as needed
  • Assemble and distribute safety related metrics/reports focusing on performance, trends and improvement opportunities
  • Observe and conduct periodic safety audits and behavioral assessments and make recommendations to Plant Manager and region
  • Track plant corrective actions associated with safety audits.
  • Assure all safety and environmental compliance issues are current
  • Assist in accident investigation and follow up
  • Plant safety committee chair
  • Work with plant leadership to improve understanding and promote ADS safety culture

Educational Requirements:

  • 2-year in Quality related job, knowledge of plastic extrusion or past manufacturing preferred
  • 2-year associate’s degree in Industrial Management or Manufacturing preferred


Preferred Experience:


  • 1-2 years in either production, safety or quality roles
  • Lean Six Sigma or Prior supervisory experience
