The Plant Continuous Improvement Leader is responsible for leading the implementation of the company’s operational excellence strategy within one of our eight manufacturing regions. The ideal candidate will have at least five to ten years of experience in leading continuous improvement tools and lean principles to support operational objectives: safety, quality, production efficiency, cost and waste elimination, preferably across a multiple manufacturing sites. The Ci Leader actively engages our facilities to lead change and coach teams to drive bottom line results. The position would report directly to the Corporate CI Leader and to the Regional Manufacturing Manager on a dotted line. 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:


  • Routinely align strategy and tactics with the Corporate CI Team.
  • Work with Plant Leaders and the Regional Managers to assess and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Use data to identify gaps in performance versus best practices, and then work with Plant Leaders and Plant CI Coaches in establishing and executing a strategy for improving them.
  • Utilize CI / Lean tools, processes and systems.
  • Work with internal and external teams to drive improvement in Safety, Quality, Production Efficiency, Costs and overall waste elimination.
  • Understand and apply financial drivers and key performance indicators (KPI).
  • Lead and coach CI events through hands-on participation.
  • Develop and deliver CI education and training.
  • Be the subject matter expert for the CI / Lean processes and deployment strategy.
  • Coach and develop Plant CI Coaches.
  • Provide technical leadership to site leadership to effect improvement on production lines.
  • Evaluate new product processes for appropriate CI and Lean tool application.
  • Follow-up with Plant CI Leaders to audit improvement progress with them to ensure results are achieved and sustained.
  • Work with Plant CI Leaders to develop plans to resolve implementation issues, creating and managing communication processes, and ensuring consistency of implemented processes and programs throughout plant.
  • Document best practices and share improvements to leverage results.
  • Provide overall support, assistance, direction and communication to the plant leadership teams regarding CI initiatives.
  • Report to the Corporate CI Team, Plant Leaders and Regional Manufacturing Manager status of CI initiatives.


This position requires the following skills/knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Business, Engineering or Operations Management preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification and/or Qualifications
  • Experience implementing Lean Six Sigma as a business methodology
  • Solid analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization
  • Highly developed project management and problem solving skills
  • Strong team building and facilitation skills
  • Experience with change management principles and demonstrated ability to drive and manage the change process
  • Experience motivating and leading cultural change to a Lean Manufacturing plant environment
  • Proven hands-on trainer
  • Experience in leading changeover reduction efforts
  • Understanding of Safety programs and Quality systems
  • Background with asset management and total productive maintenance (TPM).
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Travel – up to 50%.
